CHURCHILL DOWNS
You know Churchill Downs as the home of the Kentucky Derby. It’s also home to over 140 years of wagering history, and from 2019 through the end of 2021 I was the copywriter on the creative team for Churchill Downs’ online wagering platforms, BetAmerica and TwinSpires. Along with graphic designers, creative directors, brand managers, and other stakeholders, I worked on print, digital, and out-of-home advertisements, scripts for television and radio commercials, marketing emails, web pages, and more.
The two years I worked with them were a period of growth for the company, with TwinSpires’ earnings growing 52% from 2019 to 2021, aided in part by the expansion of sports betting and online casino offerings to compliment the traditional horse racing sector. Churchill Downs Inc. enjoyed a record year in 2021 with a net revenue of $1.597 billion.
